Projects > Western Cape Expansion (Riebeeck Project) > Social Investment for the financial year 2006/ 07
Reflecting our commitment to support and uplift our communities, PPC Riebeeck spent R168 762 in the 2006/07 financial year on various corporate social investment projects.
Some of the successful initiatives included the soup kitchen that forms part of the Badisa Soup Kitchen Feeding Programme and facilitates the feeding of 60 children a day; development of a computer centre at Riebeeck-Wes Primary (extended to include learners in all age groups at the school); the development of the trauma centre at the Riebeeck Police Centre; providing HIV/Aids education during the year and specifically on World Aids Day; a donation to Swartland Hospital; and support for a local home for the elderly.
Local schools have been the main beneficiaries of our social investment programme. In addition to the granting of sponsorships for various sporting events, we donated a computer to Rondheuwel Primer for entering the most runners in this year's Berg Marathon, and we gave cash prizes and trophies to the Dux Scholars at Wesbank Secondary School, Riebeeck-Wes Primary, Smuts Malan High School and Riebeeck Kasteel Primer.
We also agreed to provide support for a bursar from Smuts Malan High School - he will start on a bridging programme prior to doing his engineering degree at Stellenbosch University.
